Whoops. It’s been almost 2 months or non-writing. In fact Oliver goes in for his 2 month checkup on Thursday. I thought making a separate “words” section was going to make it easier for me to just type up a quick thought. Guess not. Oh well. At least I have been pretty good about posting new photos fairly often.

So… Oliver is growing, obviously. We are anxious to hear how much he weighs on Thursday. He has within the past week begun actually smiling for us. That just makes your heart melt when this stoic (often spacey) little face flashes you a upturned grin of acceptance. I can’t wait until I can make him laugh. It is so nice to feel like I am really connecting and interacting with this dude. Even the smallest looks can bring great joy. Now it seems that when he is staring at me, he actually sees me.

What else. Work is busy as usual. But I am enjoying the projects I am working on right now quite a bit. The days go a lot faster when you are genuinely interested the task at hand. I got a nice chuck of free time this past weekend when Kelly took both kids for a play date at Dan & Megan’s house. I was able clean up my studio and shop so that I can actually see table top surfaces. I know if will probably be short lived. But it sure feels nice for the moment.

Oliver is done with the blue lights. The doctor told us his bilirubin count had dropped and was out of the high risk zone. So now he gets to stay in the room with us. Hurray. Kelly has gotten disconnected from all the tubes and apparatuses. She is excited to take a shower today. Life is good. It looks like we will be here in the hospital until Wednesday morning just to make sure everyone is in good shape before we go home.

Oliver has arrived. He and mama did really well yesterday. He came out screaming and kicking. It is such an amazing experience to see your kid make his entrance after nine months of cooking. I don’t thing there is anything else quite like that rush of emotion you feel.  He has taking to nursing like a champ. He is a strong little guy.

The only blemish on his progress chart came last night around 2:00 AM. Our nurse had taken him down to record some vital signs and noticed his color was looking a little off. She checked him over and diagnosed him with a case of Jaundice. It is a fairly common in newborns. It is a little bit more of a concern when babies come down with it in the first 24 hours. So our doctor has recommended we keep him in the nursery with some blue phototherapy lights to help his body fight off his case of yellowness. He will probably need to spend the majority of his time for next day or two in the “tanning bed”.

We feel lucky to be under the care of some great doctors and nurses. Our hospital room is very spacious. We have an awesome view of the West Hills. And there are many amenities like a fridge, DVD player, hide-a-bed, and free Wi-Fi internet access that make it feel pretty comfy here.

Granny and Papa B have been a tremendous help by looking after Amelia while we are here. Amelia loves to play with them both and is keeping them on their toes. It is so great having them here.

This is it. The first entry in the new WORDS section of this site. And I don’t really have anything to say. I have been working on redesigning the site for several days. I am really hoping to get things wrapped up tonight. I am also feeling pressure to take care of lots of other to-do-list items before Oliver is born. So I’m gonna quit typing this obligatory post and try to cross some things off.
